preliminary task evaluation

Our thriller opening.

In our preliminary task we managed to use a range of shots. This consists of an extreme long shot,
bird’s eye view shot and over the shoulder shot as well as many others. In our Preliminary task we managed to use the 180 degree rule which was used through the scene where Michael and Mansour sat down to talk. Throughout this evaluation I will be speaking about the mistakes which were made as well as the things which went well throughout the task.

Framing

In our video the framing was shown to be generally quite good however there were a few mistakes made. Throughout the preliminary task there was some mistakes which was noticed. This was when Michael entered the classroom his feet weren’t in the shot as well as there being a lot of space above Mansour's head. However if the camera were to have focused slightly lower down then the frame would have looked better. Another mistake is when we see Michael enter the room and sits down in front of Mansour. We then noticed when watching it back that Mansour’s feet were cut off under the table, this could be a problem as the audience would a clear idea where Mansour was sitting.

Shots

Throughout the task we managed to use a range of shots which included what was required for the preliminary task along with a few others such as:

·
            Shot reverse shot

We included the Shot Reverse Shot this is when we see the two characters on screen were having a
 conversation.

·
      long shot

To introduce our piece we started off with a longshot, this included one of our actors walking into the building

·
          high angle shot

·
      bird’s eye view

We had used the bird’s eye view shot during the passing the bag between the two actors, this essentially gave viewers a perspective from above their heads

·
          close up shot

We had used the close up shot during the frame of when Michael opens the door.

Editing (continuity)

The continuity of the film was very smooth as well as transitions going into the next scene. Everything flowed nicely into the next scene throughout the entire piece. We used an effect to make the images look clearer, it also makes it seem more professional. The music which was added on top of the film was to build tension, it was also to cover up any unwanted background noises.

Steady camera?

The camera was very steady throughout the entire task, this was extremely good considering that we did not have access to a tripod. Even though it seems slightly unstable however it’s not very noticeable. In the future we will use a tripod so that the camera will not be unstable at any point which will make it look much more professional and smooth.

Conclusion

In conclusion our filming wasn’t perfect there were faults during framing and the camera not being fully steady throughout however we had no access to a tripod make it difficult to have the entire video to be steady.  However the story line was clear making it easy for the audience to understand without any confusion.
