Key Terms



Denotation: Direct meaning or set of meanings of a word




Connotation: Associated or secondary meaning of a word adding to its primary meaning




Representation: The description or the way someone/something is portrayed in a particular way.


Genre: The main theme of a movie



Stereotypes: A preconceived idea of the characteristic which is expected of a person for instance if there was a teenager is the streets wearing a hoodie they would be Stereotyped as a bad person.



Sub- Genre: A sub category of a movie.



Composition: The way the visual elements are arranged within the frame this is done for clarity or a balance/aesthetic effect.


Focus: This is how clear an image is. If it's a soft focus, it can be blurry this is usually used for romantic scenes.



Depth Of Field: The range of objects in focus that have a particular importance for film.



 Pan: Originally panorama- meaning view. This is a horizontal movement left or right by the camera on a fixed axis. It gives a more extensive view of the location.
